Published Requirements

Do NSFs disqualify me from business funding?

NSFs do not automatically disqualify you. The published caps are 6 NSFs a month and 24 in six months for bank-style credit, and 5 combined NSFs and negative days for revenue-based financing.

The 60-second answer

No — there are published caps, and they are higher than most business owners expect. Bank-style programs allow up to 6 NSFs a month and 24 across six months, plus up to 3 negative days a month and 9 across six. Revenue-based financing allows 5 combined NSFs and negative days a month. One rough month does not end an application.

Negative days and NSFs are two different tests

An NSF is a returned item. A negative day is any day the account closes below zero, whether or not anything was returned. Overdraft protection can keep your NSF count at zero while your negative-day count quietly climbs — and on the bank-style programs the negative-day cap is the tighter of the two at 3 a month.

How to fix it before you apply

Underwriting reads the most recent three months. If last month was bad, the highest-value thing you can do is wait 30 to 60 days with clean statements rather than apply now and take a decline onto your record. Move the daily debits to a date just after your largest deposit, and keep the balance above the minimum through the whole month rather than only on deposit day.

Common questions

How many NSFs is too many?
Seven or more in a single month closes the bank-style programs. Six or more combined NSFs and negative days closes revenue-based financing.
Do NSFs from a personal account count?
No. Only the business account being underwritten is read.
Will overdraft protection hide NSFs?
It prevents the returned item, but the negative day still shows, and the negative-day cap is the tighter test.
I had 10 NSFs three months ago but none since. Am I done?
Not necessarily. The six-month caps are rolling, so a bad month ages out. Two clean months on top of it materially change the read.

Why we publish these

These are our requirements. Most sites answering this question give you a range and a "contact us for details" — because publishing a real threshold means being held to it. We would rather you know before you apply whether you clear the bar, so the numbers above are the actual ones an application is measured against, not a marketing range. They are reviewed on the dates below and updated here when they change.
